Well-organised information session for prospective parents
We first came across IMS at the SCMP International Schools Fair. We signed up to an information session and we received prompt reminders in the weeks leading up to the session together with instructions on how to get to the campus. The information day itself was also very informative, beginning with an introductory talk by the two founders to an understanding of the Montessori approach and how it may be applicable to today’s world. We were then split into smaller groups for a tour of the campus and to see the classes in action. It was good to see the application of the Montessori approach as you can see the range of learning activities in each classroom and the children’s level of engagement are generally high across all age ranges. In summary: The class sizes were a little bigger than I had originally envisioned given what I understand about Montessori and the need for teachers to make detailed observations about each child. From what I can see, the Chinese programme seems quite strong and each classroom has two teachers (one English and one Mandarin). Overall, the information session was very helpful and I would recommend interested parents to go for an information session before enrolling.
