CityPlaza Ice Palace

It’s the weekend and it’s winter, so what else would we want to do, but Ice Skating. We opted to go for CityPlaza because of its location on the Island, and also because it’s not one of the new fancy rinks - we figured it wouldn’t be as busy. This rink is super easy to get to, located in the City Plaza shopping Centre just above the Tai Koo station. Joining the Saturday afternoon session (12.30-5), paying (cash or octopus) and getting skates was fast and easy. After putting our shoes and bags in a locker ($12) and donning our skates, we were on the ice - as newbies, very literally!! ¼ of the far end of the ice and a large section in the middle of the ice has been sectioned off for lessons and the ice is choppy and crowded. Still, we managed to happily go around for 2 hours until the zambone cleared the ice. When the session resumed at 3, the classes were finished and there was a lot more space on the ice. Great things for parents: - There are toilets at the rink, so you don’t need to take your skates off and leave every time the kids need to go to the bathroom. - There are attendants skating around the rink, helping kids off the ground when they fall and before they get run over. - Staff are friendly and helpful, with ice, steriliser and bandaids available when your kids crash out. - There are lots of seats so you can sit and easily watch your kids skate, if you don’t want to get in on the action yourself. Bring drinks and snacks so that you can use the Zamboni break to refuel and get the most out of the long session. Don’t forget gloves and long socks. This was a fun afternoon. We would go back.
