Trybe HK Excellent acrobatics and movement workout for children with child-friendly coaches
My five-year-old daughter has attended two Acrobatics & Movement classes so far at Trybe. Acrobatics & Movement focuses on building strength, agility, balance and flexibility. Exercises are carried out on the floor with a huge wedge for forward rolls and non-slip Plyosoft boxes where some serious superhero jumping takes place. I signed up for a trial lesson earlier and my daughter came home raving about how she could finally do a forward roll. She proceeded to show us over and over again for the rest of the week. I have to say I loved her newfound confidence. Trybe operates on a drop-in basis, which means the class size varies from one week to another. There were seven students in her first class and six in her second. I was happy to see that there were two coaches on hand so that each student was able to receive close attention. As can be expected in a larger group, some time might be spent waiting for a turn. I appreciated that there was little idling, as at some point the group was spilt in two to carry out separate activities concurrently. My daughter loves Coach Steph, who is assisted by Coach Carl. Both are young, energetic and good with children. Steph keeps her voice soft and controlled and is gently firm. She is able to rein in over-excited children and minimize distraction. Steph and Carl are hands-on, keeping a close eye on their charges and correcting movements when needed. At the end of the excellent workout, Steph takes things down a notch with stretching and simple yoga poses. A nice touch is that Steph made a point to remember each student’s name at the beginning of the class. The light-filled space is bright and airy thanks to floor to ceiling windows. The A&M class takes up half the floor while an adult class runs simultaneously on the other side. There is a high table with barstools in one corner for parents to perch while looking on. As is the norm with activities in Hong Kong, I paid the price of a regular lesson for the one-hour trial, which cost $250.
