Joyce was educated in England for ten years where she attended Rookesbury Park School and Farlington School. She graduated from The University of Hong Kong with a double major in English and French. Throughout university, Joyce tutored students from various schools, thus developing an interest in education. 

In the succeeding year, she attended The Chinese University of Hong Kong where she obtained her Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Major in English) and became a qualified English teacher.
