Kowloon Walled City Park
Beautiful park and a piece of Hong Kong history.
This is one of my favourite places in Hong Kong. If you are looking for somewhere to take visitors, a bit of local history or a nice park, Kowloon Walled City Park has it all. Built on the site of the historic Kowloon Walled City, this park includes a kids play ground, lovely gardens and a running/cycling track around the bottom of the park, but this is not why you come. As you move through the garden you come to a beautiful enclosed Chinese Garden with exquisite stone paths and tranquil waterways. Enter in to explore the undercover walk ways, enjoy the plants, or relax in the peace while watching locals exercising, practicing tai chi or kung fu. As you wind your way along the paths to the Walled City Museum, make sure you check out the bonsai garden, zodiac garden and the photo history of the area.
Past the Chinese Garden, the Walled City Museum is the key feature of the park. Open from 10am, with the back rooms closed on Wednesdays, it provides a comprehensive and extraordinary history of the Kowloon Walled City – with lots of pictures for the kids. A couple of rooms in the back conveying a sense of life in this area and an interactive video, my kids love this place. There is even a model of the city outside and an incredible drawing of what life was like in the city.
This is a 10 minute walk from Lok Fu station. Couple it with a quick visit to the Stone Houses Family Park over the road and if you have time, the Nan Lian Garden which is on the same train line.
