The New Wave of Real World Learning: Cartoon Network partners with OWN Academy

Seven passionate and talented media students travelled to Cartoon Network Singapore from Hong Kong with OWN Academy for a first of its kind, authentic industry-insider learning experience. This is the first time Cartoon Network has ever partnered with an education company to provide a creative and hands-on real-world learning, culminating in students’ work to be featured on Cartoon Network’s social media channels.

The students’, aged 12 to 18, started off their three-day work experience with a presentation on working with Cartoon Network brand and a creative brief to create content for their social media channels, encouraging the implementation of original ideas from the ground up. As their progress was actively mentored by the industry experts, the students’ learned to understand what it means to work at a high caliber environment by balancing natural creativity with brand values. On the last day, the mini-production teams shared their work in front of Cartoon Network's various departments and were applauded for their efforts and creativity. From ideation and storyboarding to picture-lock and sound mixing, the students learned how to work as a production team and experienced the creation process from beginning to end.

More than just work experience, the students left with a clear grasp of the day-to-day roles and trends of the industry as well as a highly valuable professional network. We believe this mentored and real-world experience is the most powerful learning environment for students of all ages, encouraging them to actively shape their own futures.
