Introducing 4 Special Extracurricular Activities for Kids (2)

These days, there are a lot of innovative extracurricular activities that can help kids develop useful skills for the modern age. However, with so many new kinds of classes available, parents can sometimes struggle to decide what to choose for their children. Here, the Whizpa team would like to introduce four interesting subjects from the whizpa.com database that will help kids learn cutting edge skills through easy and fun methods.

3D Printing

3D printing is a relatively new trend in technology. Many industries such as the medical, automotive, and aerospace industries are already making use of 3D printing. This is technology that can bring much benefit to mankind. In view of this, many post-secondary schools have been equipped with 3D printers and are offering related courses to students. As it turns out, even children can experience this development in science and technology now! The greatest advantage of 3D printing lies in the ability to create things quickly and at low cost, whereas in the past those objects might have required combining multiple components to produce. Once a computer-generated three-dimensional digital model has been created, an object can be produced by printing and combining the production materials layer by layer. Objects of almost any shape can be created by 3D printing. Letting kids learn how to produce three-dimensional digital models and create things through 3D printing can not only train their spatial visualisation ability, but also allow them to bring creativity into full play. Being able to see something that they have designed on a computer being brought to life as a tangible object through 3D printing is sure to be an extremely satisfying learning journey for children!

Cooking

People cannot always rely on others to take care of them, and must learn to become independent. Cooking is a necessary life-skill, and learning how to cook is one milestone of learning to be independent. However, are we giving children enough opportunity to develop independence? Parents often tell children not to enter the kitchen given the potential dangers present, but recently a number of TV cooking shows featuring young children as participants have prompted us to rethink whether children should cook or not. In fact, under the careful supervision of well-trained instructors, children can cook safely. Cooking can train children to be careful to avoid accidents. Children’s cooking class providers are also careful to take safety measures such as using induction stoves and instructing kids on how to use knives and other cooking tools properly so that they can be safe when cooking.

Debating

Debating is not just about going on stage for a few minutes to deliver a speech, but also the benefits gained from the preparation process leading up to actual debating sessions. Once they are given a debate topic, students must not only conduct in-depth research to prepare for their side of the argument, but they should also research their opponents’ side of the argument in order to be able to effectively refute their arguments during the debate. After in-depth preparation, debaters can present their arguments concisely and eloquently. Debating can help increase kids’ awareness of current affairs, develop their public speaking skills, strengthen their logical thinking and sharpen their ability to think on their feet. Thus taking part in debating offers young people training in a variety of skills that will serve them well in the future.

Architecture

If your child shows an interest in building and construction, then a children’s architecture class could be a very suitable extracurricular activity for them. Architecture and urban planning classes are not really designed to provide early training for kids to become architects. In actuality, children's architecture classes aim to use lessons from simple building processes to teach skills that extend beyond the category and encourage children to think in different ways. For example, kids may learn about the creative use of space, how to solve problems in daily life, and how to balance aesthetics with functionality – these lessons can stimulate children to think about their relationship with their environment from different perspectives. In class, an instructor might not only guide students to design a city, but also give them the opportunity to use different materials to create their own personal vision of the city - thus opening up more interesting avenues to explore.
